After many years of painful walking, my mom finally bit the bullet and decided to have knee replacement surgery.
I'm sure it was scary and painful but I'm so proud of her for going through with it. Even the doctor told her after the surgery that he's been doing knees for 25 years and hers was, "really bad."
It's a decently long recovery process so my dad moved a bed down into the living room so that food, a bed, a bathroom and a tv would all be on the same level for her. My Aunt Sam came up from Texas for three weeks to stay with them and take care of her.

We visited in the hospital each day. The nurses were very gracious and let us in even though children weren't technically allowed. Even though the machines made him "fret" (his new favorite word), he sat nicely on the floor and painted a picture of her and drew a giant "boo boo" in black all over her bad knee. It was as big as her head. :) I may have had to clean up some of that Crayola paint off the floor, but really... who cares. We hung the pictures on the wall before we left to cheer her up.
She's already up and moving with her walker. We are so proud of you mom! Glad you did something healthy for yourself!
