Miles is SIX. Already?

What a big kid you are.
You tell me all the time that you're not a little kid anymore. You're in kindergarten and you're growing up. Ok, fine. I guess I'll start believing it. (but probably not). So, here is where you're at as a big kid:

  • You love doing anything that your dad does. If I ask you what you want to eat, your first response is to ask what he's having. Your dad is totally your hero.
  • You are very concerned about being healthy. Snacks for school must be mostly healthy foods and you only sneak some candy every once in a while. We aren't sure where all of this is coming from, but we have discussions about three times a week to determine the health value of a specific food.
  • You like school, but think they  make you work too hard. Hopefully, when you actually start reading this you'll laugh at this statement. Kindergarten is too. much. work. :) Your favorite part of the day is recess and you can't wait to have gym class as a first grader. I think we may be in for a LONG 12 more years.
  • You love learning about Jesus. You decided a couple of months ago that you wanted to "be holy" and you prayed to thank God for sending Jesus to die on the cross. Your wisdom on spiritual questions blows our mind. You always seem to know the "right" answer when we ask you things. Seriously, you can explain the Christian faith more easily that most adults.
  • You love your "bro." From day one, you were never jealous of him. You never begrudged him. You only loved that baby. You play with Drew; you cheer him up when he's crying. We always knew that you'd be a good big brother, but you have blown our expectations out of the water.
  • You are excelling in school. You are right on track with reading and in math, you are two grades ahead. About two weeks ago, you asked how to add double-digit numbers. Seriously, I showed you once and now you can do it. You like to "play math" in the car. We'll give you a problem and you shout out the answer.
  • You have a kind heart. You don't understand why some people are mean to other kids. Everyone loves you because you're just so nice. You show empathy beyond a normal kid and care strongly for the people in your life. It's amazing and humbling.

What a whirlwind year. We love you baby. Keep that amazing heart.

I love this post (and the others). It will mean a great deal to your kids... I am sure the sentiment translates already in your daily living.
